How to Cook Frozen Spring Rolls (Air Fryer or Oven)

Jump to Recipe Jump to Audio Print Recipe

Craving a crispy, restaurant-style appetizer without the wait or mess of deep frying? Air fryer frozen spring rolls are your new best friend! Learn how to heat up spring rolls two different ways for a mouth-watering snack in under 15 minutes.

Seven spring rolls on a white plate on a blue and white kitchen towel with sauce in front in a small ramekin.

Why You’ll Love These Frozen Spring Rolls in the Air Fryer:

  • No prep time: Frozen spring rolls can be popped into the air fryer straight out of the box, no thawing or preparation required.  Talk about an easy appetizer!
  • Extra crispy: Because air fryers can circulate heat around all sides, cooking spring rolls this way gives them an unmatched crunchy exterior.
  • No oil: Unlike traditional cooking methods using a skillet or deep fryer, making frozen spring rolls in the air fryer requires no extra oil for a mess-free experience.

Let’s Get Started! Here’s What You’ll Need:

The contents of a box of frozen spring rolls with the bag of uncooked rolls and sauce pouches on a kitchen counter.

Ingredients

Frozen spring rolls - Any brand will do the trick! I especially love using this recipe to make Costco Frozen Spring Rolls and Trader Joe’s Vegetable or Chicken Spring Rolls in the air fryer. Make sure not to thaw before starting.

Sauce - Many brands include sauce packets within the box, but if yours doesn’t- or you ran out of sauce before spring rolls- you may want to grab one. Garlic soy dipping sauce or sweet and sour sauce are great choices.

Equipment:

Air fryer or oven: While I personally like to air fry frozen spring rolls since it takes slightly less time, you can just as easily prepare frozen spring rolls in the oven. See my notes below for specific directions on each method.

If you're using the oven, you'll need a baking sheet- for the air fryer your basket is just fine. In both cases you might want to use aluminum foil for easiest cleanup. Tongs are also handy, if not for flipping for getting them out of the basket after cooking.

How to Cook Frozen Spring Rolls

Air Fryer Method

To cook frozen spring rolls in the air fryer, first preheat the air fryer to 400°F. Once heated, line the basket with aluminum foil if desired- do NOT add foil while preheating, as it needs to be weighed down by food for safety. Next and add the frozen spring rolls, positioned in a single layer without touching each other. Air fry for 9-10 minutes.

If your brand of vegetable spring rolls came with sauce packets, go ahead and defrost one in a small bowl of water while you wait.

Oven Method

Preheat the oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and add the frozen spring rolls in a single layer, spreading them out so they’re not touching. Bake for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through the cooking time if desired.

Recipe Success Tips

  • Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket. Frozen spring rolls in the air fryer need enough space between them to cook evenly. If you want to cook more spring rolls than there is room in the basket, simply make them in multiple batches.
  • Adjust cook time as needed. Since different brands of frozen spring rolls can vary in size, you may need to add a couple of minutes to the directed time if you find they aren’t heated through.
  • Try flipping halfway through. Package directions often recommend flipping the spring rolls halfway through cooking, though I have tried both ways and haven’t noticed much difference. If your spring rolls are on the larger side, you might find that flipping them halfway through helps them heat up more evenly.
  • Serve with your favorite dipping sauce. Frozen spring rolls are delicious with soy sauce, peanut sauce, hoisin sauce, and sweet chili sauce!

Serving Suggestions

Spring rolls are great as an appetizer or snack on their own but also pair perfectly with many Asian-inspired dishes as part of a complete meal. Try them out with the recipes below:

FAQs

Do you need to flip spring rolls halfway through?

I haven't noticed much of a difference either way, so I don’t consider flipping a critical step regardless of which method you use to cook them. However, you can consider flipping them halfway through the cooking time if your spring rolls are on the larger side or if the package instructions explicitly recommend it.

Are spring rolls the same as egg rolls?

No – spring rolls and egg rolls are similar, but egg rolls use a thick, yeast dough wrapper while spring roll wrappers are have a thinner flour or rice-based wrapper. Learn more about the differences between the two classic appetizers here.

Can I store leftover spring rolls?

Once they have been cooked, frozen spring rolls don’t hold up very well in the fridge. They can easily become soggy. So, I recommend only making the amount you plan on eating in one sitting and leaving the rest frozen to cook another time. That said, if your eyes were bigger than your stomach you can place extras in an airtight container in the fridge and re-air fry for about 5 minutes. They just won’t be quite as crispy as the first cook.

How long to air fry frozen spring rolls?

I recommend air frying them for 9-10 minutes, but your cooking time may vary based on the brand of frozen spring rolls you’re using. Mini spring rolls may cook faster, and on the other side if you find they’re not crisp enough or cooked all the way through, feel free to add a few extra minutes as needed.

Notes

Nutrition facts are from the box of Bibigo spring rolls, which replaced Royal Asia at Costco in 2024.
If using an included the sauce packet, defrost unopened sauce pouch in a small bowl of water while your rolls cook. Otherwise, serve with your favorite dipping sauce!
Box directions may call for flipping midway which gives a slightly more even coloring, but is not critical.
