Instructions
Caramelizing Onions
Slice onions and add to pan with 1 tablespoon butter and salt.
Saute 5 minutes on medium heat, then add ½ cup water and cover the pan for 5-10 minutes, until water evaporates.
Reduce heat, remove lid and stir, adding a bit of water to deglaze the pan if needed.
Continue cooking on low-medium heat another 15 minutes, or until onions reach desired color. Set aside any extra onions if you made a larger batch for other recipes.
Slider Assembly
Slice rolls lengthwise and place open face on baking sheet- if toasting in the oven pre heat to 350. Melt butter in a small microwave safe bowl and stir in garlic powder, then apply to bottom half of rolls. Place cheddar slices evenly on the other half.
Dice leftover tri tip into bite sized pieces, and lightly heat in a pan for 3-5 minutes with the caramelized onions. Meanwhile, lightly toast slider rolls in a toaster oven or oven until the cheese is melted and bread just browned, about 3 minutes.
Place onion and steak mixture on half of the rolls, then add the tops and cut into individual sliders. Enjoy!

Storage Directions
Refrigeration: Keep leftover sliders covered in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. They do not freeze well.
Reheating: Warm the sandwiches in aluminum foil and heat in a 300°F oven for 5-10 minutes or until hot.
Recipe Success Tips
Caramelize extra onions. This recipe calls for a 6-ounce, or 1 small onion. If desired, carmelize extra onions in other recipes, such as on flatbread pizzas, focaccia, or burgers or tucked into grilled cheese sandwiches.
Slice with a bread knife. Keep the rolls light and bouncy while slicing by using a serrated knife. A non-serrated knife can smash the bread.
Deglaze the onions if needed. If the onions stick to the pan after removing the lid, add an additional tablespoon or two of water and gently stir to release them.
Toast in a toaster oven or oven. Choose the method that is available to you and works best for the amount of sliders you are preparing. Most toaster ovens can accommodate one batch of sliders, but an oven will likely be needed for a double or triple batch. If toasting in the oven, preheat it to 350°F ahead of time.
